After a few years of pie making, the Perryville Lions Club is becoming known for their sweet side.
For the third time, the club is creating cheesecake-like pies just in time for Valentine's Day. They will make and sell the pies in about two weeks.
"People now ask about them (the pies)," said Perryville Lions Secretary Peggy Morrison.
The recipe, which features cream cheese, a graham cracker crust, and more, came from club member Bonnie Giraldi. Now, club members have been trained and now form an assembly line to make the pies.
"I've already got four orders," said Lion Oakley Sumpter. Last year, the club made about 80 pies. Sumpter's role on making day is manning a hand mixer, blending cream cheese and sugar.
"I'm a jack of all trades. I open the cans and the sugar, and take the paper off the cream cheese," said Lion Luther Vaught.
The Lions have it down to a science and can create as many as 80 pies with 8 or 10 people in three hours.
Lions Club members are taking orders for the pies, you may select cherry or blueberry, until Monday, February 8. You may place your order with a club member or by calling 410-642-6330. Pies are to be picked up beginning at 10 a.m. on February 12. The pick up location is at Principio United Methodist Church. Cost is $8 per pie for either variety.
Proceeds will benefit local programs including a high school scholarship fund and the newly founded Leo Club at Perryville Middle School.
