It's going to be a busy fall and spring at Cecil's Parks and Recreation department.
For spring, the youth flag football and lacrosse programs are ready to start. Middle School Movers, after school athletics for those in grades six, seven, and eight was popular in the winter and is expected to be as much so now. "We had 180 in basketball," said Clyde VanDyke, County Director of Parks and Recreation.
And come fall, just as Cecil County Public Schools has adjusted it's schedule to start after Labor Day, there will be new programs.
"We're in other schools with sports and arts, now we're adding homework and outdoor environmental classrooms. We're branching out into new territory," said VanDyke.
Beginning in September, Cecil Parks and Rec. will offer After the Bell for students enrolled in Calvert, Rising Sun, and Bay View elementary schools. Each school day from 4-5:30 p.m., children will be bussed from these schools at dismissal to the Cecil Arena.
There will be athletics as well as homework help and information about making healthy decisions. The cost for After the Bell will be $15 per week per child. The program goal is 150 students. Child to staff ratio will be one staffer to 10 children.
Another program will be offered for days when school is not in session. That program School's Out/Rec's In will also be held at Cecil Arena for children ages 6-12 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dates and prices are as follows:
October 20 - $25 per child, November 22 and 24 - $40 per child, December 27, 28, 29 - $60 per child, January 15, 2018 - $25 per child, February 19, 2018 $25 per child, and March 30 and April 1, 2018 $40 per child.
