Don't put your patriotism away after you've finished celebrating Memorial Day.
The Town of North East will keep a quarter century plus tradition alive with the annual Flag Day celebration. That event is set for Tuesday, June 14, at 6:45 p.m.
For years, North East Police Chief Darrell Hamilton and officers from the department, have helped scouts conduct an official flag raising. There will be a public group Pledge of Allegiance. This will coincide with the pledge said in unison with communities across the nation at 7 p.m.
Flag Day celebrates the day when the national flag was officially adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. Many Americans unofficially adopted the practice of celebrating flags on June 14. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation.
This event is held in the North East Community Park. All scouts and groups are welcome. It is free and open to the public.
