Mayor Travis Marion would like to see another fast food chain come to town.
He may just get his wish if an annexation request submitted to Rising Sun officials earlier this year, comes to fruition.
Back in January, town officials announced that they want to be "above board" with a request for annexation by Dollar General.
The town introduced a resolution which will allow Murthy Associates, LLC to become part of town and likely, develop. The property, at 401 Telegraph Road is adjacent to Sunoco A Plus which has already been annexed into town.
The plan would locate another business behind the existing Dollar General. "I think it will expand our tax base. Adding new business is always good. I look forward to seeing what new business comes in that location. Ideally, what I'd love to see is another fast food option," said Mayor Marion.
If this comes to fruition, the town will collect $200 each for water and sewer hook up fees, $8,000 each for water and sewer capital improvement fees, $1,000 for a street and sidewalk impact fee, $200 in inflow and infiltration reduction fees, $1,000 traffic safety impact fee, and $1,000 police and fire impact fee. The property owner is also responsible for all fees related to the annexation.
"A resolution was introduced to consider the annexation. Once comments are received from the various county agencies, there will be a public hearing. No hearing date has been set," said Rising Sun town administrator Calvin Bonenberger.
