No one was injured in a school bus accident which occurred on Wednesday, June 1 about 7:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Telegraph Road, Rising Sun.
Maryland State Police, a Cecil Sheriff's Deputy, and Cecil County Public Schools Transportation Specialist Dan Jester are on the scene investigating.
Sgt. Ron Schmidt of the Cecil Sheriff's Department stated that Bus 37, contracted by Wagner Bus, was westbound on Route 273 (Telegraph Road) when for unknown reasons, the bus left the roadway, went into two ditches, and struck a utility pole. The bus came to rest diagonally on Route 273, in the area of Hanna's Furniture.
The road will be closed for at least an hour, until at least 10 a.m., according to Schmidt.
The bus had dropped students at Rising Sun High and was headed to pick up students for Conowingo Elementary. No students were on board during the accident. A substitute bus was sent to Conowingo.
State police said that are not certain if charges will be filed. The bus driver was not injured and at the scene, expressed concerns about the students on her second route.
"If you're going to have an accident, do it like this. (With no students on board and no one injured)," said Jester.
