Challenger Kelly Alexander Benson could not unseat the incumbents in the Town of North East election which was held February 13.
Michael Kline and Paul Stark held off the challenger. Kline collected 94 votes and Stark 92. Benson received 51 votes.
Long time Mayor Robert McKnight was the top vote getter of the day, collecting 118 votes.
It was a larger than normal turnout with 136 of the town's 1,915 registered voters casting ballots for a 7.1 percent turnout. Of the 136 ballots, 121 voted on paper. Thirteen people voted by absentee ballot.
While the North East election is over, Charlestown is gearing up for that town election.
Charlestown also has an election coming up. The election is set for Tuesday, March 7 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at town hall. The terms of incumbents Joe Letts and Bruce Hechmer are up for election. Letts, Jack Kronner, and Karl Fockler have filed. Hechmer told town officials he wants to focus more on his business and won't seek another term.
The swearing in will be held one week after the election on March 14.
Rosie Bott, Prosper Boudart, and Virginia Slater are Charlestown's election board members. Slater is chair of the board. All the candidates have been approved to run in the town.
