After two weeks of intensive training, PFC Stephen McKinney headed back to the classroom.
McKinney, a Rising Sun Police Officer, took over as instructor of the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program at Rising Sun Middle School.
"I'm glad we finally brought this here. Mark Messner (from Cecil County Sheriff's Office) was here and did a great job," said Rising Sun Police Commissioner Bernie Chiominto. "My philosophy is police our own school and teach DARE here."
Rising Sun Middle School principal Rick Edwards said he is "excited" to have Rising Sun Police teaching DARE. "They are always in the school anyway. Having them teach DARE is a side benefit for us," said Edwards.
PFC McKinney, who started teaching at the school on Thursday, isn't the only Stephen McKinney in the school. His son, Stephen, attends RSMS but has already completed his DARE education.
