Cecil's Master Gardeners have a plan to make your whole new year bloom.
Doris Behnke, a staffer for Maryland Extension, and the coordinator of Cecil's Master Gardener program, said that an entire year's worth of programming is being offered which will likely appeal to most everyone.
There will be both a lecture series and opportunities for hands-on learning.
"Most of it is free. For the make and take items, there is cost recovery for the cost of materials," said Behnke.
There will also be new faces teaching some of the classes as well as returning favorites from past classes and lectures.
The second Thursday of each month, lectures will be held at the Elkton Senior Center at the County Administration Building. Times haven't been set yet, but the plan is for evening hours with classes beginning after 6 p.m.
The lecture series includes: January 11 - Small fruiting trees - Growing your Fruiture, February 8 - Confident cuts, Pruning woody ornamentals, March 8 - Shade defined, April 12 - Challenges in managing water resources, May 10 - Pests and pollinators, June 14 - Hydrangeas, September 13 - Permaculture, October 11 - Gardening for winter, November 8 - Orchids, and December 13 - Soil health.
Saturday workshops will be offered with all beginning at 9 or 10 a.m. January 27 there will be a House Plant Trouble Shooting Class. February 17 the class will gear you up for outdoor gardening with "Starting Seeds Under Lights." March 17 class attendees will make a spring floral arrangement. April 21, the popular Backyard Poultry class returns. May 19, there will be a class called Seed Saving Success.
