Darrell Hamilton isn't exactly sure how long North East has celebrated Flag Day.
It's been decades, at least.
"I enjoy hooking up with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts for this. It's very patriotic for the children to see," said Hamilton, North East's police chief for 40 years.
The Town of North East will keep the tradition alive with the annual Flag Day celebration. That event is set for Wednesday, June 14 at 6:45 p.m.
For years, North East Police Chief Darrell Hamilton and officers from the department, have helped scouts conduct an official flag raising. There will be a public group Pledge of Allegiance. This will coincide with the pledge said in unison with communities across the nation at 7 p.m.
"This means a lot. It sets an example for young children by celebrating Flag Day," said Chief Hamilton.
All are welcome to this event which is held in the North East Community Park.
