An area of Elkton's Fall Fest formerly occupied by the Firefighter Combat Challenge has gone to the dogs.
The Delmarva Dock Dogs, a canine dock diving club, has signed on for Fall Fest.
The dogs will be in Elkton on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19.
Their pool and performance area will be set up on Howard Street, in the area formerly used for the combat challenge.
Dogs will compete in the big air (dog long jump), extreme vertical (dog high jump), and speed retrieve (dog speed swim).
You don't have to be an expert to get in on the action. On Friday from 9 a.m. until noon, for a $15 fee, your dog can get in on the action.
Rules for dogs:
Dogs must be at least six months old.
Dogs may not be pushed or pulled into the water.
Dogs must be on a leash at all times except when on the dock.
Only four feet leads and flat buckle collars are permitted on the dock.
Dogs must be given food, water, and shade.
No dogs in heat are allowed in competition and practice area. You must pick up after your dog.
Vaccinations must be current.
"I watched this event while my husband and I were at a car show and could not walk away," said Mary Jo Jablonski, Executive Director of the Elkton Alliance.
Jablonski also learned that the creator of the dog's bathing suits is Kim Vaillencourt, who is coincidentally, an Elkton resident.
