You can still get your Whopper at the drive thru.
While current building appearances may lead customers to believe differently, the Burger King restaurant at the intersection of Routes 213 and 40 in Elkton is open for business.
The drive thru remains open during a massive building renovation project. An Elkton building inspector said last week that the entire interior of the restaurant is being renovated. That includes a new kitchen. Outside, the building will get a new facade. Other local building project updates:
• Work is continuing on the new Gilpin Manor Elementary School which is being built adjacent to the current school. The $17 plus million Gilpin Manor Elementary will measure 65,749 and have a capacity of 720 students based on 30 students per classroom. The building will be state of the art and constructed to meet green standards with recycled content in materials, natural daylighting, acoustical controls, improved energy savings and more. The contractor, Mullan Contracting, is working with both the county and the town. County inspectors review the site. The Town of Elkton handles the permitting and building oversight.
• Work is also continuing on the strip mall dental office, possibly a mattress store, and Panda Express which are coming to Elkton in the area of the Rite Aid on Route 40.
• Bohemia River Overlook, the former Elk Manor Farm, at 88 Rivers Edge Road, North East, is open for business. The facility, which county officials will tour this week features a vineyard, barn, waterfront venue, and beach house. It will serve as a venue for weddings and other events.
