The police are about to get wet for Elkton's kids.
This year's National Night Out against Crime is set for Tuesday, August 1 from 5-8 p.m. in Meadow Park, off Delaware Avenue. As part of the event, there will be Dunk an Officer.
"National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live," said Captain Joseph Zurolo, executive officer for the Elkton Police Department. "National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."
Those who attend will have the chance to interact with police officers and firefighters. There will be K-9 and drone demonstrations and a chance to tour police cars and fire engines. There will also be information about joining a Neighborhood Watch and local crime statistics.
There will be free food and drink, basketball, Nintendo, volleyball, kickball, cornhole, and music.
North East police chief Darrell Hamilton said that town's National Night Out event is "unparalleled". It will also be held on August 1 from 5-8 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club on East Cecil Avenue.
