While a store in Chesapeake City was denied approval by county planners, a new concept has a Dollar General store coming to Elkton Road.
Jeff Thorpe, Plans Reviewer for the Cecil County Department of Permits and Inspections, said that although it's in the earliest stages, a plan has been submitted to construct a Dollar General at 1610 Elkton Road, in the area of State Line Liquors. Subdivision approval will be needed before the plan can go forward.
That planning is moving forward after approval was denied for a Dollar General at the site of the former Jack & Helen's restaurant in south Chesapeake City. Capital Development Partners, LLC requested rezoning of the .6479 acre parcel. It is currently zoned Southern Agricultural Residential. Rezoning to Business General was denied.
Dollar General has recently expanded in Cecil County. Within the last year or so, stores in the chain have been built in Rising Sun, Conowingo, and Cecilton.
Plans have also been submitted to create a dance center in the College Center strip mall across from Cecil College. Eclipse Performing Dance Company, LLC, recently submitted plans to create a 2,100 square foot dance center at that location.
But while, there are requests for these new businesses, single family home development remains flat. Patrick Conway, Director of Permits and Inspections said that in September 2013, 16 permits were issued for single family home. Overall, the department issued 98 total permits. A year ago, during September 2012, 15 permits were issued for single family homes.
