The original plan was that the Elkton Central Library's parking lot would be open for patrons by September 30.
It's now the new year, and the lot remains closed.
There's a reason for that, explained the Town of Elkton's Director of Building and Zoning Charles Bromwell.
In the engineering plans, the electric line service to the library was not included in the plans. A new service line had to be installed, causing the library delay. "It (the project had to be redesigned and the electric lines had to be moved," said Bromwell. "The new line is in."
The original project was supposed to last 30 days - from September 1-30. Phase one of the project, was the installation of a solar canopy and electric vehicle charging station. The second phase was parking lot and stormwater updates.
"Our parking lot project continues to make progress. While we are not able to give a specific date for completion, we anticipate reopening the lot in January," said Frazier Walker, Community Relations Specialist for the Cecil County Public Libraries. "Patrons have continued to use the Elkton Central Library and they have also traveled to our other branches."
The interruption of service will continue according to Walker. "The Elkton Central Library will be closed the week of Monday, December 26 through Saturday, December 31 for sidewalk repair at the main entrance to the building. All other CCPL branches will be open for their normal operating hours," said Walker.
