A short time after filling in for the absent mayor Tuesday night, Rising Sun water and sewer commissioner George Walker resigned his post.
His resignation came during a post meeting executive session Tuesday night.
Town administrator Calvin Bonenberger sent out an announcement today which reads, "The Mayor and Board of Commissioners have accepted the formal resignation of Commissioner George Walker effective immediately." Walker, who is the former police chief, said he had already served longer than he expected. When he was elected, his term was supposed to expire July 1. During his tenure, terms were extended and election procedures changed.
"I do not have the energy or enthusiasm to continue to serve. I served what I was elected to serve. I do not have the enthusiasm or energy to go on," said Walker.
The town election is October 19. The filing deadline is September 18. The terms of Walker and Commissioner Jennifer Scully are up for election. In order to fill a mid-term vacancy, the mayor makes a recommendation that is subject to approval by the remaining board of commissioners.
