Eventually, Steve McBride would like to create a children's version of the Cecil County Choral Society.
For now, he's just trying to get children to Choir Camp.
McBride, a music teacher and current director of music at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, North East, will host Cecil's first Children's Choir Summer Camp.
The camp is geared to children entering grades three through seven and will be held August 1-5 at St. Mary Anne's, South Main Street, North East. It's a day camp, running 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
McBride is conducting the camp on behalf of Cantus Amor, the music organization which he founded. A typical day at camp will include vocal warmups and musicianship, choir rehearsal, music theory studies, composer education, and supervised recreation. The camp daily lessons will include singing skills, games, crafts, and more. The culminating event will be a musical performance for family and friends.
He said that the long term goal is to form a children's choral society.
"I started a community choir for adults in Valley Forge (Pa.) but my heart is in teaching children," said McBride.
He has worked to spread the word regarding choir camp. Flyers went to public schools music teachers, local churches, and library branches.
He said no musical experience is necessary for camp attendees. Those who have music training may earn a leadership role at camp.
Tuition for the camp is a non-refundable $15 registration fee. Tuition is $115 for the week. There is a $25 sibling discount.
Those with questions or who want to register may go online to www.CantusAmor.org or call McBride at 484-886-8215.
