Car hits building in Rising Sun
A Rising Sun man was flown to Shock Trauma after the SUV he was driving struck a downtown building. Billy Ray Church,41, of Leedle Circle, Rising Sun, was flown from the landing zone at Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, Biggs Highway, shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday, July 8.
Community Fire Company of Rising Sun Chief Matt Blakeley set the scene. He said that fire company members were wrapping up company training when they were alerted for the call. Two fire company members and Rising Sun police officer Adam Dominick extinguished a fire in the SUV. The focus then shifted to extricating Church from the vehicle. "It was the magnitude of things at once - the car was on fire, there was entrapment, and we were concerned for civilians because it was in the center of town," said Blakeley.
