Those who travel in the Conowingo area, may find themselves taking the long way around.
But according to Scott Flanigan, the county's Director of Public Works, the detour will be only temporary.
County Bridge number CE0047, which carries Dr. Jack Road over an abandoned rail line, was closed beginning Monday, December 1. The bridge, which is about a quarter mile from the western end of Dr. Jack Road, is closed for repainting and other minor repairs.
"The goal is to reopen it to thru traffic as rapidly as possible. The work is estimated to take about two weeks. The current target date for the reopening is on or about December 15. But the progress of the work and hence, the reopening date could be impacted by weather," said Flanigan.
Flanigan said this was a scheduled road closure. Signs advising motorists that a detour would be in place were posted about two weeks before the work began. "Unfortunately, not everyone reads signs these days," said Flanigan.
