Two Elkton men charged each other with assault following an incident at a polling place during the primary election Tuesday, June 24.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., Cecil Sheriff's Deputies responded to Elk Neck Elementary School, in the unit block of Racine School Road, Elkton, for a reported disturbance.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with a male subject who was across the road from the school. The male subject stated that he was the victim of an assault. The male subject stated that another male subject was arguing with him then bit his nose. Both parties were familiar with each other prior to the incident.
The second male subject had left the scene prior to the arrival of deputies. Deputies observed injuries to the male subject's nose area consistent with being bitten. Election officials advised both subjects to leave the property.
The man with the injury to his nose was identified as Harold McCanick, 54, of Elkton.
Deputies learned that the second subject, Walter Rozanski, 60, of Elkton, had responded to the District Court Commissioner's Office to seek charges on the other subject. The second subject claimed that he had been pushed by the first subject then put his nose into the second subject's mouth.
Both individuals responded to District Court Commissioner's Office and applied for charges against each other for second degree assault. Sheriff's Office deputies served criminal summons on both individuals Tuesday evening, June 24.
