There will be more than seasonal fruit at Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church's second annual peach social.
"We will be serving hot dogs, beef barbecue, macaroni salad, and baked beans," organizer Shirley Miller said last week.
Peaches will be on the dessert menu. "We will have peaches and ice cream, peach cobbler, peach trifle, and peach glaze to put on ice cream," she said. "Last year, we also had half a dozen peach pies donated, but we don't know yet if we'll have pies this year."
Last year, church members decided to host their first peach social, an event that drew about 40 people.
"Everybody does strawberry socials, so we decided to do something different," Miller said. "We did it in August last year, but we thought we could move it up a bit this year and still have ripe peaches available. If we did it any earlier, the peaches would still be hard."
There will be door prizes awarded every half hour. The prizes will be gift cards to local restaurants.
The social will be held on July 30 at the church, 1199 Valley Rd. (Rt. 372) four miles east of Quarryville. It will begin at 4 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. It will be held rain or shine.
While admission and the food are free, donations will be accepted to help Kevin and Marie Frackman offset the costs associated with their decision to adopt a child. Earlier this year, the church was the site of a benefit yard sale for the Frackmans.
"We're asking people to come and be surprised," she said. "We're also asking people to bring their friends."
