It was just another day at the office for the Rising Sun volleyball team.

The Tigers triumphed 25-15, 25-14, 25-23. Rising Sun volleyball coach Rich Wilson was anxious to see how his team would respond to a little adversity.
He was pleased by what he witnessed. The Tigers rebounded from a second-set deficit and went on to sweep host Perryville 25-12, 25-23, 25-14 Tuesday afternoon, September 19. The Rising Sun volleyball team downed host North East 25-9, 25-20, 25-13 Tuesday night, September 12.
Don't mess with success. That's the way Rising Sun High School's volleyball team is preparing for playoffs. "We really didn't do anything special, just a normal between match work outs," said head coach Rich Wilson. Now the Tigers are preparing for the regional finals. If they win, they'll go on to the state tournament. A win there would give the team its second state title in two years. The Tigers lost only one game last year, to Delaware Military Academy. The Rising Sun volleyball team will play for the MPSSAA Class 2A state title Monday night, November 23.
The Tigers will play Patuxent at 6 p.m. in Ritchie Coliseum on the campus of the University of Maryland. Rising Sun is seeking its third state title, having won in 2006 and 2007. Stories and photos will be posted online as soon as possible. "So, a statement. How about I blew the first game? Entirely," Wilson said to start the post match press conference. "We've been working on matching up with their middle hitter so we flopped the rotation around a little bit. Want to know the difference between the first game and the last three? That was it." After switching back to their regular rotation, the Tigers won the next three games to defeat Liberty 18-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 to advance to the Monday, November 23, state title match. The Rising Sun volleyball team showed it's not suffering from triskaidekaphobia – fear of the number 13.
On Friday the 13th, the Tigers won the 13th region title in school history by sweeping Kent Island 25-6, 25-6, 25-14. |
