It was just another day at the office for the Rising Sun volleyball team.
Good thing the Tigers aren't paid by the hour. The undefeated hosts turned in a businesslike performance to quickly dispatch of C. Milton Wright 25-9, 25-19, 25-14 in less than 60 minutes on Tuesday night, October 3. The Rising Sun girls cross country team won the Susquehanna Division meet in Perryville Community Park Tuesday, October 3. Offensive linemen often wallow in a sea of sorrow and anonymity, noticed only after they commit a holding penalty or false start.
That was not the case Friday night as Perryville's o-line paved the way for a 56-26 triumph over host Rising Sun and then were lauded afterwards. The Rising Sun boys soccer team conceded its Wednesday, September 27 game against Perryville was significantly more closely contested than they had anticipated. "A lot closer," the Tigers' Jason Kelsch acknowledged. "After Perryville barely beat Joppatowne (in overtime two days earlier), we were expecting to roll over them. They came out and played hard. We came out a little complacent and slow." The Tigers started sluggishly and then needed to withstand a late Panther rally to escape with a 3-2 triumph. Perryville's Jon Hamancioglu's second goal of the game came with a minute remaining in regulation and brought the Panthers within a goal but they did not have a chance at an equalizer in the final 60 seconds. "A lot of different things [went wrong]," Rising Sun coach Ken Ulrich said. "Obviously when we play county schools, they kind of want to come for us. And we're ok with that. I think other schools are going to look at us and say, 'We have a shot to try to knock the Big Dog off'. And again, not that we're the Big Dog because obviously we went after Elkton this year." The Rising Sun volleyball team swept visiting Bohemia Manor Tuesday, September 26.
The Tigers triumphed 25-15, 25-14, 25-23. Rising Sun volleyball coach Rich Wilson was anxious to see how his team would respond to a little adversity.
He was pleased by what he witnessed. The Tigers rebounded from a second-set deficit and went on to sweep host Perryville 25-12, 25-23, 25-14 Tuesday afternoon, September 19. Click read more to view photos from the Elkton football team's 47-20 triumph over Rising Sun Friday night.
