Faced with adversity, the Perryville volleyball team turned to a trio of seniors who had been in similar situations.
Coach Matt Borrelli credited his captains with steadying the ship after the Panthers dropped the first game against Bohemia Manor Wednesday and then the leaders helped Perryville withstand a furious Eagles rally in game four. The result was a 17-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-22 Panthers victory in a region semifinal game in Chesapeake City. The undefeated Rising Sun volleyball team opened the playoffs with a 25-13, 24-10, 25-7 triumph over North East Monday, November 6.
The objective was straightforward.
Win and you're in. Bohemia Manor won. Perryville is done. The Eagles (6-4) clinched their sixth straight playoff appearance with a 28-0 romp over the host Panthers Friday night. Perryville (6-4) missed out on a postseason bid after losing its final three games. The fifth time wasn't the charm.
Taylor Aumiller scored on a long, floating shot 6:10 into overtime to give the Fallston girls soccer team a 1-0 triumph over host Rising Sun in a region semifinal game Friday afternoon. It is the fifth straight season the Cougars have ousted the Tigers from the region tournament. Rising Sun has not scored a goal in those five games. Zach Laird won the boys 1A East Region race to help the Bohemia Manor boys capture a 10th straight region crown last Thursday afternoon at Fair Hill.
Beauty is in the eye of the goal scorer.
Ivan Herrera and Micah Thomas disagreed on the quality of Thomas' pass which led to Herrera's overtime golden goal in the Tigers' 2-1 triumph over Elkton in a section semifinal game Tuesday, October 31, at Calvert Regional Park. |
