Once a Marine, always a Marine.
On Sundays, Dan Jacobs of Port Deposit, heads out of his home and hikes eight miles or so, honoring his fellow Marines.
He carries a full-sized American flag which is attached to a long pole. He typically walks up Hopewell Road.
But you may also find him on Route 222 or on other area roads.
"I'm here in the name of the other Marines who have fallen," said Jacobs, who served in the USMC from 1991-95.
On a recent hike, Jacobs was carrying 70 pounds of weight in the pack on his back.
That was 10 pounds each honoring the members of the Raider 7 which were killed in a helicopter crash in March, 2015.
He does his hikes, he said sometimes for Marines, always to honor the U.S. flag, and sometimes marches along "just for the hell of it."
