Cash for Christmas is expected to pay dividends in Elkton's downtown all year long.
The annual event, which has shoppers who frequent downtown participating merchants collecting store receipts for more than a month in return for raffle entries, has grown by leaps and bounds.
Elkton quietly kicked off the holiday season the day after Halloween.
Cash for Christmas, which runs until December 16, has shoppers who frequent downtown stores, possibly earning prizes. Each shopper receives one raffle entry for each $10 spent at participating Elkton merchants. For more information visit www.elktonalliance.org. There will be cash prizes and a gift basket up for grabs.
On Friday, December 2, Elkton's most popular holiday event will be held, a pair of tree lightings is planned. The first is held at Union Hospital when Santa arrives by fire engine at 5 p.m. That is followed by a second tree lighting at Elkton Visitors Center. There will be caroling, pictures with Santa, and light refreshments. There will be a special performance by Bobbie Ann's Dance Studio.
