A Georgia man has renewed Cecilton's interest in local history.
Eddie Flowers, of Jasper, Georgia went to an estate sale in his home state. While there, he uncovered a piece of local history.
That piece of history, a men's adult league baseball uniform with Cecilton imprinted on the front, is now back home in the town.
"The closest year we could find (that it was worn) was 1936," explained Cecilton town staffers Kim Roland and Brenda Cochran.
At that time, the town had a men's baseball team.
The uniform also has a number 7 on the back and came with both a fielding glove and vintage catcher's mitt. The uniform also has bloomer style pants, socks, and a quilted chest protector all from the 1930s.
Cochran, whose hobby is woodworking, will build a shadow box for the uniform. It will be displayed at town hall, permanently.
Roland said that now that the town has the uniform, several residents have taken it upon themselves to research the history of the teams. A resident has also donated a vintage baseball photo that will be added to the collection of town memorabilia.
"Everybody's curious and looking into the history," said Roland.
