Bigfoots will return to Rising Sun's downtown in the next couple of weeks.
Owner Milt McAllister Sr. is doing everything he can to make sure that happens.
"We'll open July 24 or the first of August at the latest. It's gonna happen," said McAllister. "I'm broke and I'm anxious and I'm ready to go."
The new restaurant is not the same old 100-year-old Bigfoots, the entrance has been shifted to the side of the building. The building is also set back from the road. Inside, there will be seats for as many as 32 customers. "Parking has got to be better than it's ever been before. But it's still not good," said McAllister. The new building is smaller. The former Bigfoots was 2,800 square feet. The new store is 2,000.
Bigfoots on West Main Street was destroyed by fire June 7, 2015, in what grew to a three alarm fire. In October, they opened Bigfoots Express in Oxford. For the last several weeks employees for the Rising Sun store have been training in Oxford. Former Bigfoot employees will also come back temporarily to help with the transition.
"I'm ready to be back in Rising Sun. We will be opening hopefully July 24. We'll do something bigger (grand opening) later. Everything should be on target for the 24th. We may open without the pizza ovens," said McAllister.
