"It was a close game so they were high-stress innings but Kenny battled," Fish said.
Solanco was able to capitalize on Cedar Crest miscues. "It was a messy game," said Fish. "They made some errors but we were able to play a clean game." Derek Lavin reached base three times and Tag Hess and Tony Rambo each had a key hit. The Mules managed just five hits on the day. "We weren't excited about our offense but we were excited about our pitching and our defense," said Fish. Last Wednesday, Solanco lost 7-5 to Section One leaders Warwick. The Mules trailed 3-0, 4-1, and 5-2 before rallying to tie the game in the fifth. Brady Thomas doubled and scored on a Bailey Keys hit. After a Joe Murray single, Hess delivered a two-out, two-run single. Warwick countered quickly, scoring twice in the top of the sixth to retake the lead with help from some Solanco mistakes. Murray tossed the first four innings. "He did his job and kept us in the game," Fish said. Robert Beard came on to relieve Murray, as has been the Mules' plan. "He was great again but the defense let him down a little bit," Fish said. Fish still saw some positives. "The most encouraging thing is we didn't play our best game but we still hung in there against one of the top teams in Lancaster County." Walton hurled a complete game to pitch the Mules over Manheim Township 7-1 Monday, April 13. "Kenny was awesome," said Fish. "His control is as good as anyone in the league's. He has great mound presence and composure and he's smart enough to pitch to contact when he needs to." The leadoff hitter Lavin had three hits to spark the Solanco offense. Dawson Gote drove in a pair of runs and Keys and Hess each added an RBI hit. Comments are closed.
