Mike May tossed five shutout innings to earn the win and knocked in five runs to spark the Solanco Midget baseball team to a 9-1 triumph over visiting Strasburg Willow Street Monday, July 1, at Solanco High School.
May belted a solo home run and clubbed a pair of two-run doubles as Solanco recorded its second straight victory after dropping its first seven games of the season.
Solanco led in six of the seven defeats and has lost two games in extra innings and two others by one run. "I'm happy we're playing better and happy we beat two teams in our section the last two games," coach Tom Fish said.
Solanco jumped on top of SWS with two runs in the bottom of the first. Ethan Clary reached on an infield hit and advanced to second on a throwing error. May walked and Seth Harnish delivered an RBI single to center. May eventually scored on a two-out wild pitch.
May led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer to left. Harnish walked, stole second, and scored when Zed Baker was safe on an error. Ronnie Fulton drove in Baker with a single to left.
In the fourth, Josiah Petersheim and Clary each singled and scored on May's two-run double to deep left-center. May later added another two-run double off the left field fence.
SWS finally got on the board in the sixth but Solanco reliever Tyler Sadler recorded three straight strikeouts to escape further damage. Baker pitched a perfect seventh.
