The Solanco JV girls basketball team recorded two victories last week. The Mules downed Penn Manor 35-24 Friday night. Trailing 9-6 at the end of the first quarter, Solanco switched to a 1-3-1 zone in the second. The Mules forced a lot of turnovers and held a 24-13 cushion at halftime. Rachel Trout led Solanco with 13 points, including 11 in the decisive second quarter. Jen Eberly added six points and continues to be the team's top off the ball defender and defensive rebounder, coach Mike Glackin said.
Haley Conklin and Sarah Frawley each had five points. Trout, Frawley, and Mackenzie Dillinger each hit a three-pointer on one of Solanco's best shooting nights of the season. The Mules made 6 of 10 free throw attempts, a big improvement over the previous few games. Solanco upended Warwick 3-14 Tuesday, January 14. The game was tied at 7 at the end of the first quarter. "We just came out a little too tentative on the offensive side," Glackin said. "We finished strong with a couple steals and breakaway layups. From there, we played some of our best basketball of the year." The Mules allowed a total of seven points over the final three quarters. Eight out of the 10 girls who played made a field goal. "We are far from the most talented TV team in the league, but we have 10 girls who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of the team," Glackin said. "And they're an intelligent group that works very hard. I was particularly pleased with how they held the lead and controlled the ball on offense in the fourth quarter." Paige Borcky paced the Mules with eight points. Taylor Stitz and Frawley each had five. Solanco is battling injuries as guard Morgan Perry sustained a knee injury and Cayla Robinson was already lost for the season. Comments are closed.
