The Solanco track and field teams both lost to visiting Elizabethtown Wednesday, April 17. "Both teams continue to improve and earn their goals for the meet," Mules coach Ivan Haines said. The Bears topped the Solanco boys 84-66.
"The boys’ team lost a hard fought battle," said Haines. "We were missing athletes for various reasons." Colin Althoff and Dom Messano each won two individual events and were part of a victorious relay team. Althoff captured the 200 and 400 (PR of 51.7 seconds). Messano triumphed in the long jump and triple jump. Althoff, Messano, Austin Wood, and Angel Daniel-Morales won the 4 x 400 relay. Senior Jose Serrano-Silvia won his first 800 meter race. Other first place winner were Will Paredes in the 100 meter dash) and Nate Neuhauser (shot put) each earned a first place finish. Solanco swept both the 400 with Althoff, Daniel-Morales, and Wood each running a personal best for the year and the shot put with Michael Keefer second and Shaneef Carter third. "What is really nice to see is the number of talented underclassmen who were able to pick up seconds and thirds," Haines said. "Again, the coaching staff is very pleased with the team performing their personal bests. Over 15 PRs were earned." Elizabethtown won the girls competition 86-64. "The girls’ team loss was a hard fought battle," said Haines. "We matched up well with them in all areas except in distance. E-town has a good distance team. It was difficult to overcome. However, the girls did not give up." Alana Yoder prevailed in the 100 and 200 and won the 4 x 400 relay with Jadan Forren, Olivia Lasko, and Kerith Paine. Yoder led a sweep of the 200 with Aleksa Burger second and Haylee Byers third. Senior Troyana Miller finished first in the shot put and the discus. Senior Kerith Paine picked up her first win in the pole vault with a PR of 8-6. "The bright spot of the meet was seeing many underclassmen earning seconds and thirds," said Haines. "These girls will be the future leaders for next year. Once again the team earned over 10 personal bests and continues to improve." Comments are closed.
