Rams score five unanswered goals to overcome two-goal hole Gasper Wambrau tallied four goals and one assist in the second half as the West Nottingham Academy boys soccer team scored five unanswered goals to top host Perryville 5-2 Monday, September 11. "The difference was how we worked together," said Wambrau, a junior from Biak, Papua Indonesia. "We passed the ball a lot better in the second half.
He said the Rams sharpened their focus in the second stanza after falling behind 2-0 at halftime. "It's how I think to make it go and then just pray to God," said Wambrau. After Wambrau tallied twice to tie it, he assisted the go-ahead goal by Vinsensius Pekei. Wambrau then tacked on two insurance goals. WNA's fourth goal was the prettiest of the day. Wambrau got behind the Perryville defense and lifted a shot over the head of the goalkeeper Andrew Wennersten. Wambrau and midfielder Gavin Muoyo formed a dynamic duo. "[Perryville] defended well and we were kind of surprised in the first half," said Muoyo, a junior from Kigali, Rwanda. "We weren't expecting that. But then we adjusted and realized these are the games we are going to be playing this year and we needed to focus more, play as a team and not individually." Nick Alberding and Benjamin Roberts scored first-half goals for the Panthers. In between, Perryville could not convert a penalty kick. Comments are closed.
