The Perryville field hockey team advanced to the region final with a 4-1 victory over host Bohemia Manor Monday afternoon, November 2. Kyleigh Knell tallied twice in the first half and completed her hat trick in the second half. Lydia Hill assisted on both of Knell's first half goals as the Panthers led 2-0 at the break. "Scoring the first goal sets the vibe for the entire game no matter what team it is," said Knell. "When it's you, personally, you know that you score that first goal, you know you're picking them all up and you can keep pushing forward." In the second half, Claire Hudson scored off a Taylor Poore assist before Knell made it 4-0 with 15:30 remaining. "I really want this for my team," Knell said. "It's my senior year. I want to be there for my team. I want to do this for my team, not just myself. And I knew coming into this game it was going to be a really big game. It's do or die now and I was ready." The Eagles' Daniela Vibriesca spoiled the Panthers' shutout bid with a goal in the final 10 seconds. Bohemia Manor goalie Bridget Wood stopped a penalty stroke in the first half. Perryville will seek its third region title in program history and first since 1986 when it hosts Patterson Mill Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Panthers also advanced to the state semifinals in 1980. "The team's got momentum" said Perryville coach Janet Candy. "We're right where we want to be. [The team is] continuing to get better and better and better and whenever we set standards of things we need to do, all of the players on this team are hustling, fighting, coming together as a family, really clicking. We're where we want to be at this time of the year." In the regular season meeting on September 24, Patterson Mill prevailed 2-1 in Perryville. The Panthers were without injured starters Lydia Hill, Katelyn Griffin, and Krissy McDuff in that game. Those three players have returned to the lineup. "We've got everybody back running on full cylinders," said Perryville coach Janet Candy. "They are really ready to play and be aggressive. We are ready and feel Patterson Mill will be great competition and we're ready to play them." Said Knell. "Having all them back is really good. That's what we need. Knowing it was only 2-1 in the regular season without those three girls, having them back we're all ready and we're going to come together again and try to kick butt." Comments are closed.
