Rising Sun wrestling coach Cory Hall likes his team's mix of veterans and promising newcomers. "We have two seniors, a good group of juniors, a solid class of sophomores, and some promising freshmen," Hall said during practice Saturday morning. The coach said the Tigers have less than 20 wrestlers but should be able to fill most of the weight classes. Senior Tyler Jones (160 or 170) was one of two state qualifiers last season. He missed some practice time because he was selected to play in a football all-star game. "We're excited to have Tyler back and going after it," Hall said. "We expect big things from him."
Senior Max Foppiano (195) has a wealth of experience. "He's had some rough years but he's done growing and balance should come with him," said Hall. Junior Matt Childs (106 or 113) was the Tigers' other state qualifier last season. Hall is hoping for breakout seasons from juniors Noah Ulrich (120 or 126), Josh Wassin (120 or 126), and Mason Hoag (160 or 170), who each have had success on the varsity level. Hall has high expectations for sophomores Jon Price (113 or 120), Richie Moore (152 or 160), and Taylor Cimorosi (180 or 195). First-year wrestler Wyatt McMillan has shown potential. Freshman Silas Filliaux (132) has junior league experience. Freshmen John McGinnis (138 or 145), John Falker (138 or 145) and heavyweight Matt Price are also trying to crack the lineup. "I think we're going to be in every match," Hall said. "We're going to be a tough team to beat. Our wrestlers are spread throughout the lineup. We have experience where it needs to be. We could by vying for a region [dual meet tournament] berth." The coach says the potential is there to triple Rising Sun's number of state qualifiers. Comments are closed.
