The Rising Sun volleyball team passed its toughest test of the season Friday night. Their reward is another region title. The Tigers topped host North Caroline 25-17, 24-26, 25-10, 25-16. It was first time all season undefeated Rising Sun dropped a set. The region title is the second straight for the Tigers and the 12th in the program's illustrious history. Rising Sun won state titles in 2006 and 2007. After winning the first set Friday, the Tigers squandered a 24-21 lead in the second set as the Bulldogs reeled off five straight points. No one knew how Rising Sun would respond to losing a set. The answer was a resounding "pretty darn well". The Tigers claimed the second set 25-10. Mackenzie Blevins served 11 straight points to push a 12-7 Tiger lead to23-7. Rising Sun finished off the hosts 25-16 in the fourth set. After starting the set with four straight errors Maddy Eckerd put the Tigers ahead to stay with a six-point service run and setter Sarah Williams followed with a four-point run to up the advantage to 11-4. Lacey Swartout led Rising Sun with 14 kills and Breanne Haley and Blevins each notched eight. Williams had 32 assists. The Tigers take on Hereford Thursday night in the state semifinals at Ritchie Coliseum on the campus of the University of Maryland. Rising Sun 3, Patterson Mill 0 The Tigers downed the Huskies 25-11, 25-11, 25-13 last Wednesday night. Breanne Haley had a team-high 10 kills and Lacey Swartout and Maddy Eckerd each added eight. Rising Sun 3, Harford Tech 0 The Tigers triumphed 25-11, 25-12, 25-18 Monday, November 3. Lacey Swartout supplied a team-high 10 kills. Mackenzie Blevins added eight and Breanne Haley had seven. Anna Prodoehl provided four. Haley racked up 23 service points including four aces. Sarah Williams recorded 25 assists. For Harford Tech, Alicia Yeager collected five kills and five aces.
