The Rising Sun softball team is seeking to improve from last season's 8-9 record. Coach Rusty Moore is expecting better results in his second season at the helm. "It's year two and we're able to implement more strategy and things I want to see," Moore said. "Last year we were learning what to expect from each other. This year, we're going to be able to play more my style of softball."
His style is to be aggressive and flexible. "We want to take advantage of what other teams give us and be able to adapt during games," Moore said. Reagan Connell is the Tigers' top returning pitcher. "Reagan looks to be the workhorse," Moore said. Aleshia Shires, a transfer from Perryville, and Kaylie Linman, who was injured last year, are both vying for time in the circle. Sophomore Emily Consiglio is back at catcher. "Emily can build off last year and continue to learn," Moore said. Four-year starter Lexi Osborne will play first base. Junior Maddie Foard and sophomore Mia Sexton are challenging for the starting second baseman job. Senior shortstop Paige Bradford, a four-year starter who was hampered by an injury last year, is primed for a big year. Lexie Barclay, Foard, and Sexton are in the mix at third base. Kelly Porte has experience in right field and Shires can also play there. Promising freshman Ally Bradford will be in center field. Alexa Hull started every game last year in left field. Freshman Bella Barbato is also part of the outfield equation. "We expect to build on last year and are shooting to finish over .500," Moore said. Comments are closed.
