Rising Sun rallied for seven runs with two outs in the top of the sixth to take a three-run lead and withstood an Elkton rally in the home half to come away with a 10-9 triumph in a Little League District 5 10-11 baseball first round game last Wednesday night at Eder Park. Trailing 7-3 with one out in the top of the sixth, Jonathan Stanley started the uprising with a double to right-center. That was the last batter Elkton started Jacob Whiteman faced because he hit the pitch limit.
AJ Lawrence singled up the middle and Tyler Hogue walked to load the bases. The next batter hit a comebacker which resulted in a force at home leaving Rising Sun down to its last out. Blake Flaugher drew a bases-loaded walk to narrow the gap to 7-4 and Elkton made another pitching change. Cole McCulloch walked to plate another run. Matthew Trout stayed alive by hitting two foul balls with the count 3-2 before walking to trim the deficit down to 7-6. That brought Mason McNeill to the plate and McNeill ripped a two-run single between the third baseman and the bag to put Rising Sun ahead 8-7. After a wild pitch, Connor Racine walked to load the bases. Elkton brought on its fourth pitcher of the inning. Facing an 0-2 count, Stanley reached up to smack a two-run single to center to lengthen the lead to 10-7. Elkton didn't go down without a fight. Brandon Uhde led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk but the next two batters hit into a fielder's choice. Eddie Marsilii singled to right to keep Elkton alive. After a wild pitch, Francis Guns lined a two-run single to center and advanced to second on an error on the play. Trout, who had come in the fifth in relief of the starter Flaugher, fanned the next hitter to end the game. All 10 Rising Sun runs came with two outs. Elkton led 4-0 heading into the third. Flaugher ignited a third inning rally with a two-out single. McCulloch walked and Trout lined an RBI single to right. McCulloch scored on a passed ball. After McNeill walked, Racine doubled down the left field line to cut Elkton's lead to 4-3. That's the way it stayed until the bottom of the fifth. Kadin Snyder singled and Elkton took advantage of two Rising Sun errors to up its lead to 7-3. Rising Sun's dramatic sixth-inning comeback set up a winners' bracket game with Chesapeake City.
