The Rising Sun girls lacrosse is adding a group of promising freshmen to a solid nucleus of experienced players. Kelsey Perkins returns in goal. "She looks wonderful in practice and did an excellent job in our scrimmage games," second-year coach Becca Guethler said. Senior Jess Borchardt and sophomore Jasmyne Moore will lead the defense.
Senior Maria Ziegler is a first-year player. "Maria brings a lot of athleticism," said Guethler. Junior Sara Rutherford, who played JV last year, will also contribute. "Any defense has to mesh well," said Guethler. "It needs to be a well-oiled machine. I'm pleased with how they adapted during the play day." Junior returning starter Maggie Palfi will be a key cog in the midfield. Freshmen Emily Fanning and Kaitlyn Shivery will make an immediate impact. "It's an exciting time," Guethler said. "Several freshmen are going to make an impact for us. With the rec programs growing, you see a difference in the girls coming in. They already have the basic skills and fundamentals and they can step in and be productive players." Meghan Szkalak and Cayley Hall were promoted from the JV and will also contribute. Defensive midfielder Daija Krygier will chip in. "We have a young midfield but it's fast and quick," said Guethler. Senior Heather Amos will spark the attack. Sophomore Liz Zatalava is a returning starter and senior Lorrie Bowman will help the offense. Guethler has high hopes for freshman Logan Alexander and varsity newcomers Julia Boris, Becca Chiominto are also competing for playing time. "Last year we made some progress," Guethler said. "Consistency is the key, playing a 60-minute game." Comments are closed.
