The Rising Sun girls lacrosse team continues to show signs of improvement. Using a strong passing game to quickly switch from defense to offense, the Tigers jumped on top early and went on to an 18-10 triumph over host Aberdeen Thursday night. "I am very happy with them," Rising Sun coach Becca Guethler said. "I think our transition, at times, is impeccable. It's just putting it all together for a full 60 minutes. We've definitely been stepping it up in practice and I think that shows out on the field."
Rising Sun moved to the ball to receive long passes and kept cutting on offense to run circles around the Eagles. "When you stand flat-footed, that's when you drop it," said Guethler. "We've definitely been talking about that a lot in practice. Going to [the pass]. Cutting that distance off. Because those long passes are where you drop it or accidents happen and we have a turnover." Midfielder Emily Ball worked from sideline to sideline to help the Tigers control play. "Emily Ball is our go-to girl in the midfield," Guethler said. "She gives it her all. She has heart and determination. to win." Starting goalie Kelsey Perkins had a strong game behind a solid defense. Perkins played the first half and then returned between the pipes to help seal the deal after Aberdeen has gotten within 13-9. "Kelsey Perkins definitely stepped it up" said Guethler. "She made some great saves and she is tenacious back there. If something does go wrong, she revamps and comes back even better the next time around." Sarah Yashinskie paced the Tigers with six goals. Heather Amos collected five goals and two assists. Sam Foster added three goals and one assist. Jackie Barbon chipped in a goal and an assist. Olivia Zorn, Liz Zatalava, and Lorrie Bowman each contributed a goal. Comments are closed.
