The Rising Sun girls basketball team once again expects to challenge for the Susquehanna Division title. The Tigers were 16-4 last season and tied Harford Tech atop the division standings, but the Cobras won a tiebreaker. Rising Sun coach Kathy Stoudt knows it will not be easy. The Tigers lost five players to graduation including leading scorer Brooke Bower and unsung hero Courtney Spangler. "There's a big void," Stoudt said. "Brooke was our leading scorer the last three years and our primary ball-handler. Courtney led with her hustle and rebounding." The good news is the Tigers return three talented players who have a great deal of experience. Senior forward Lexi Osborne has contributed since she first stepped on the court as a freshman. Senior guard Paige Bradford was hampered by an injury last year but is back at full strength. Junior forward Abby Mack can score and gives Rising Sun a shot blocker on defense.
"I expect those three players to be leaders on the court, be able to handle pressure, and show good decision-making," said Stoudt. "It will be a different team. We will have more balance and that can be a good thing." Liz Zatalava, a 5-11 sophomore forward, will contribute after spending last season on JV. Senior point guard Jess Borchardt brings experience. Stoudt once again will count on Katlyn Nugent, who contributed last season after transferring from Texas. "She has the ability to score and can handle the ball," the coach said. Freshman guard Ally Bradford has "great potential", Stoudt said. Junior guard Maddie Foard has varsity experience. "Maddie is a good role player," said Stoudt. The coach is expecting an exciting regular season. "I think it will be much more competitive in the county," Stoudt said. "Elkton is going to be awesome and Bo Manor will be competitive. Tome is great. It should be an interesting year. Every game is going to be tough." Comments are closed.
