The Rising Sun girls basketball team improved dramatically last season. Despite losing seven seniors and three starters, second-year coach Kathy Stoudt expects the Tigers to take another step forward this year. Junior guard Brooke Bower averaged a little over 10 points a game last year and Stoudt said she expects her to score close to 20 a game this winter. "I'm expecting a stellar year," Stoudt said. “I think she'll be awesome." Lexi Osborne is coming off a promising freshman campaign. She participated in AAU ball in the offseason as did many of her teammates.
"She's been working really hard," Stoudt said. "She's going to be a great player." The Tigers have a pair of talented sophomore point guards, Jess Borchardt and Paige Bradford. Borchardt was on the varsity last season and improved over the offseason, Stoudt said. Senior forward Taylor Allen brings strength and athleticism and is often assigned the task of guarding the opponents' top scorer. "She's a smart player and anticipates well," said Stoudt. Junior Courtney Spangler made the varsity squad and has shown a great deal of improvement, the coach said. Senior Mollie Zionkowski will contribute once she has recovered from an illness. Freshman Abby Mack could also play an important role before the season is over. Stoudt plans to have Mack begin the year on the JV to get plenty of minutes. "She's going to be phenomenal," said Stoudt. The Tigers open the season Friday at 5:15 vs. Tome. "We're excited about the season," Stoudt said. "Our goal is to improve on 14 wins. I think we'll be able to score more. Even though we're young most of them play AAU ball in the offseason so that helps us." Comments are closed.
