With a relatively young team, Rising Sun volleyball coach Rich Wilson wasn't sure what to expect from his squad this season. Even after a lopsided season-opening victory over Patterson Mill Thursday, September 6, Wilson remains uncertain how good the Rising Sun can become. The Tigers served a whopping 35 aces and trounced the host Huskies 25-7, 25-3, 25-3. Junior Emily Jackson collected 13 aces, seven assists, and three kills. Sophomore Sophia Eckerd had a team-high five kills to go along with six aces. Senior Megan Hoyle notched 11 assists and three aces. Senior Lexi Gordon contributed four kills. Sophomore Lauren Hudson recorded three kills and six aces. Senior Breelyn Young swrved seven aces.
"We're a very young team," Wilson said. "As I was telling my coaches, I really don't have a good feeling for them, yet. So, as we come into the season, it's as much an experiment as anything. The lineup we had on the floor wasn't a lineup until [two days earlier] when we decided to make some changes. The first couple weeks, we're really going to be feeling ourselves out, see who can do what, where we need to improve, where we can slide some people in. It's still very much a work in progress and it probably will be for at least half the season. I've got two sophomores on the floor, one junior, and two seniors, and our offense is from the younger group, so it's just a very, very young group. With young groups, you're going to get a lot of mistakes, you're going to get a lot of errors. I'm kind of excited, but I told my wife, I really don't know this team, yet. Obviously, we haven't been tested. This was a nice, easy start to get things moving. We didn't go a full six rotations in any game. That's why I kept the starting group in there. We really don't know anything about us, yet." Comments are closed.
