Rising Sun's girls lacrosse team gained so much confidence from a strong second-half showing on Tuesday, they were able to repeat the feat two days later at North East. The Tigers tallied the game's final four goals – the first three by Heather Amos – and upended the Indians 13-11 Thursday night. "In our last game, in the last 10 minutes, we came back [on] Aberdeen and we scored a lot," Amos said. "I think that going into this game we were a little bit nervous but then our coach talked to us at halftime and it was like, 'play pretty much how you played in the last 10 minutes of Aberdeen and I think that's really what amped us up. I think in the last 10 minutes we pulled together as a team and we were able to mesh and we didn't have that kind of connection at the beginning of the game." Trailing 11-9, Amos tallied twice to tie the game with 5:40 left in regulation. She scored the go-ahead goal 55 seconds later and Logan Alexander added an insurance marker with 2:49 to go. A shift in strategy helped spark Rising Sun's rally. With freshman Emily Fanning face-guarding Indians' star Brianna Christie, the Tigers stymied the North East attack down the stretch. Christie had an outstanding game, scoring seven of her team's 11 goals. "She's a very good player," Rising Sun coach Becca Guethler said. "In order for us to win this game she had to be taken out of the game. So by putting somebody on her that was face-guarding her, it worked in our favor." Amos finished with five goals to lead the Tigers. "She was in the right place at the right time," Guethler said. "She was catching the ball. There was a lot of off-ball movement. She has great cuts. And she's ambidextrous so he can fake right and then shoot left. She did a really nice job." Alexander scored four goals. Liz Zatalava collected three goals and two assist. Fanning added a goal and defender Maria Ziegler handed out an assist. Rising Sun did not lead until Amos made it 12-11. North East jumped out to a 4-1 lead and led 7-5 at halftime. "I think there was a lot of screaming coming from the sideline," said Guethler. "I don't know if that motivates them. [The game] was getting away from us. At every timeout, and at halftime, you could tell all over their faces. However, the last game that we played in (against Aberdeen), they won in the last 10 minutes so they know they can do it." Fanning, goalie Kelsey Perkins, and the other Rising Sun defenders clamped down on defense and Amos spearheaded the offense. "I think that, personally, I get in my own head a lot," said Amos. "And I think that having my coach pull me off on to the sidelines and just like pump me up and be like, 'Don't get into your own head. Just calm down and play lacrosse like you know how to play', is what really helped me." Photos from the JV game
