Rising Sun girls basketball coach Kathy Stoudt is seeking some answers after her team lost its first two games. Harford Christian dominated the final three quarters and topped the Tigers 55-39 Tuesday night, December 15. Rising Sun led 14-4 late in the first quarter. Harford Christian outscored the Tigers 51-25 the rest of the way. The visitors didn't make many outside shots but got a lot of easy putbacks off the offensive glass. Stoudt wasn't sure why her team was outrebounded by a large margin. "I don't know, to be honest with you," she said. "We've got a lot of work to do. We didn't have a scrimmage so these first two games [are what we're using to find the right personnel]. Do we have the right personnel in? We've got to go back to fundamentals with a lot of these kids. I don't know. I don't know…I think it's just going to be a while until we try to figure it out. Every game is going to be a challenge for us." The Tigers are still trying to develop some depth. "It's hurting us a lot," said Stoudt. "The condition of the [starting five]. We had them down by 10. We just ran out of gas. We sub and we lost our lead and we couldn't get it back. Our first five was winded. It's hurting us a lot." The coach blamed her team's abundance of turnovers on "sloppy play and poor decisions". On several occasions, Harford Christian scored and then stole Rising Sun's inbounds pass which led to easy baskets. "It's very deflating," said Stoudt. "The other thing is when we make a good play we are not able to capitalize on it. That's deflating. You start putting a little run together and then you throw the ball away a couple times in a row. So, the kids are definitely deflated." Abby Mack paced Rising Sun with 16 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Lexi Osborne added nine points and Paige Bradford supplied seven. The Tigers opened the season with a 47-37 loss at Edgewood Monday, December 14. Mack had a huge game with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Comments are closed.
