The Perryville volleyball team shook off some rust and swept a gritty Bohemia Manor squad in the region semifinals Wednesday. The host Panthers prevailed 25-19, 25-23, 25-17. Perryville had not played in three weeks and the layoff hurt early.
"I think the three weeks that we had off between games kind of…We came out pretty sloppy with some of our plays," said Perryville coach Matt Borrelli. "Our hitting wasn't very consistent. We made a lot of passing errors. We couldn't really set up our offense as well as I had hoped. But, Bo Manor also played really, really well. I was really surprised with how well they played, They definitely gave us a really tough game." Teri Wennersten paced the Panthers with 13 kills and three blocks. Hailey Jones recorded 30 digs, Erin Murphy added 11, and Kadi Davis chipped in eight. "[Bo Manor is] a really good team," said middle hitter Gabby Goodnow (five kills). "It fells really great to win against them, obviously, because we've been rivals with them for a while and I'd like to congratulate them on a good season." Rose Porch provided 25 assists and four digs, "Our setter (Porch) did very well," said Goodnow said. "She was there every time the ball was halfway across the court. She really deserves a lot of props." The Panthers will be hosting the region championship game Friday at 5 p.m. against either Colonel Richardson or Pocomoke. Those two schools play Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Perryville is seeking its fifth straight region title and ninth in program history. Comments are closed.
