Perryville's softball team remained undefeated by topping Harford Tech 7-0 Wednesday afternoon. Starter Mara Little and reliever Lydia Hill pitched the host Panthers (6-0) to the win. Little, a freshman righty, struck out seven in five innings of work and yielded four hits and one walk. The senior lefty Hill gave up two hits and fanned four. "Both our pitchers, Em (Emily Phillips) included, continue to work ahead," Perryville coach Dave Ruark said. "We've been very consistent at making the opponents' offense swing defensively. A lot of 1-2, 0-2 [counts]. The girls are doing great. We're not giving free passes." Kaitlyn Griffin and Carly White each had two hits for the Panthers. Perryville scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take command. Hill got things started with a single. Two runs scored on errors and another on a wild pitch. Amber Keene knocked in a run with a triple to left-center with two Tech outfielders colliding while trying to make the catch. "I really want to see them hitting the ball harder," Ruark said. "This is a couple games in a run where we've had a massive wind blowing in so we need to drive the ball and we need to hit the ball down and hard. When we did, it was right at somebody. Their pitcher was throwing pretty good early. We showed bunt a few times, a little suicide squeeze. Just getting the ball in play was key against their first pitcher. I would like to earn the runs but they definitely gave us some to work with. But when you don't give up runs, you can't lose." In the fourth, Reese delivered an RBI double off the centerfielder's glove. Hill scored on a wild pitch and Griffin knocked in a run with a bunt single. Comments are closed.
