Tigers shake off sluggish start to upend Indians Rising Sun's Lauren Hudson says she doesn't like people watching her play volleyball.
She's willing to deal with it if the crowd is comprised of her classmates vociferously cheering for the Tigers. Clad in red, white, and blue and waving American flags to honor the lives lost 17 years earlier on September 11, 2001, a large contingent of raucous Rising Sun students helped the Tigers overcome a sluggish start. Rising Sun rallied to sweep visiting North East 25-22, 25-8, 25-16 Tuesday night, September 11. "The fans help us but sometimes they make me nervous," Hudson said. "I don't really like people watching me play." The Indians jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the opening game. "I was very nervous and I think that's why I didn't play well [at the start of the match]," Hudson said. "I think it kind of spread throughout the team. I realized we are so far behind and just needed to [play better]." After a sideout, Hudson served nine straight points to put the Tigers ahead 18-15. "I think I was mad that I was doing so badly and I just put all my anger into my serves," said Hudson. "I needed to focus on that." With the score tied at 20, the Tigers took the lead for good on a kill by Sophia Eckerd. With momentum firmly on its side, Rising Sun rolled in the final two games to complete the sweep. "I think [the fan support] helps the team a lot," said Hudson. "We were very nervous because this was our first home match but I think the fans helped." Eckerd paced the Tigers with eight kills and Hudson had seven. Megan Hoyle handed out 11 assists. Emily Jackson notched nine assists to go along with a pair of kills. Comments are closed.
