Perryville boys lacrosse coach Chris Soper saw signs of improvement during the second half of his squad's season-opening 13-1 loss at Havre de Grace Friday night. He freely acknowledges there is still a lot left to work on for the Panthers. "I just think we need to learn, really, the game," Soper said. "We're lacking experience at the varsity level. It's out of character for us right now. We haven't come together, yet. We've got a lot of learning to do. It's a new group. We told them at halftime, 'That was one bad half in a really long season. So get rid of it. We'll come back out in the second half. We'll play hard. We'll play better.' And I think we did that. So we'll just learn from here. We've got a lot of things to correct. I can't pinpoint one thing. There's a bunch."
Perryville trailed 8-0 at halftime. "We didn't really have possession," Soper said. "When we did we threw the ball away. We weren't communicating defensively. There were breakdowns all over the field, really." Things got better after the break. "We started to go to the goal a little bit," said Soper. "We created some more opportunities. We covered better defensively. I thought (goalie) Vinny (Gugliotta) had a really good game, made a bunch of saves, but other than that, there's just a lot to do." Thomas Meehan and Kyle Cameron each scored three goals to lead the Warriors. Hunter Vaughn had the Perryville goal. Comments are closed.
