Balanced scoring beat a two-pronged attack as the Perryville boys basketball team topped visiting Bohemia Manor 58-48 in a first-round playoff game Friday night. The Eagles' Justin Pritchett (20) and Qamar Muhammed (19) combined for 81 percent of their team's points. Meanwhile, five different Panthers scored at least six points with three in double figures. Tréshawn Warren paced Perryville with 16. Dominic Gugliotta added 13 and Tyleke Johnson chipped in 12. Nick Roberts recorded eight and Bobby Monk provided six. "One time we played Bo Manor we had a balanced offense and it was the same [Friday night]," Perryville coach Charles Givens Sr. said. "Tyleke really passed the ball off to a lot of people. And he was very unselfish and I appreciate that. That way, they could not key on him specifically. [With] a lot of people scoring you can't really key on everybody. We had that tonight. Roberts, Gugliotta, Bobby Monk, they were doing a great job." Perryville won three of the four matchups between the two schools, losing only at Cecil's College's holiday tournament. Bo Manor came out on fire. Muhammed buried consecutive three-pointers to put the visitors in front 6-0. Pritchett added two trifectas as the Eagles built a 12-5 lead. "I think that was their gameplan," said Givens. "Their two best shooters were taking a lot of shots, and certainly they were going in. But we knew eventually they were going to get tired and they did. Arms get tired…It's almost like lifting weights. You can only lift weights but so long. They keep shooting, they're arms are going to get tired. And I think that happened because their best shooter was shooting some shots short and was shooting some airballs. So, that was a sign they were tired out." Perryville tallied six of the last seven first-quarter points – four by Johnson – to close within 13-11. "They had a lot of threes but there were only two players who were making them," said Johnson. "The one and two players on their team were making the threes. That's why we were able to catch back up because our whole was contributing and making points." Monk scored the first four points of the second quarter as the hosts outscored the Eagles 16-4 to take a 27-17 advantage into intermission. "Honestly, we said we said we were going to see how they were playing in the first quarter," Johnson said. "We obviously knew they had Qamar and Justin. They're the best shooters on the team. Usually, they're a first half team. We wanted to see how much they'd put up against us. We tried to contain the score the whole time throughout the first half. And the second half we usually put up points and check up the intensity in the second half and that's what we did." Bo Manor did not get closer than seven in the third quarter and Perryville led 40-29 entering the final eight minutes. The Panthers had a 51-34 lead midway through the fourth quarter before Bo Manor made a last-ditch attempt to get back into the game. Eight straight points narrowed the gap to nine but that would be as close as the Eagles would get. Gugliotta made five of six free throws in the final minute to help seal the deal. "I told them before we were going to beat Bo Manor if everyone plays how they should play," Johnson said. "Everyone needs to score. Everyone needs to get rebounds. Everybody needs to get loose balls. Everybody needs to play defense. And that's what we did." Warren was a big factor in the post. The sophomore transfer from Baltimore County played well in the final regular season game and again in the playoffs opener. ."He's been great," said Givens. "I just hope he keeps on doing that. He inspired our players. They know that Tréshawn is sometimes lazy, sometimes slow getting up and down the floor. That's his basketball character. But he said [Thursday night] in practice, he was going to play well and he came out and he did that." Perryville advances to a second round game Monday night at Havre de Grace with tipoff set for 6.
