Perryville softball defeated Rising Sun in a 2-0 victory on May 1. Brooke Reynolds hit a single in the top of the second, putting a man on first. Reynolds took the opportunity to steal to second opening up first base. Emily Phillips was walked putting men on first and second. Amber Keene was next up to bat and bunted the ball, was out at first but allowed Reynolds to score the first run for the Panthers. During the fifth, the Panthers again were able to score. Keene hit a line drive to middle field and got on first base. Erin Murphy got a hit and moved pinch runner, Hanna Downs to second but, Murphy was out at first giving the Panthers their first out. Mara Little hit the ball to center field and was able to bring home Downs, adding the second run for the Panthers. "We were getting runs in early, with no outs. We were aggressive when we got on the bases, stealing the bases, and we got one (run) on the bunt and the other on a sacrifice. Its just good to see us executing on the smaller things," said Perryville head coach Dave Ruark. In the bottom of the sixth, Rising Sun's Kelly Porte hit a single and got on first. Olivia Blethen also hit a single, putting a man on first and second. After two strike outs, Porte was tagged out at second, the Tigers were unable to score a run. "We need to put both sides together, offense and defense. There were a few times we didn't communicate on defense but for the most part we played solidly," said Rising Sun head coach Rusty Moore. "Offensively we are just kind of in a funk. We go up and down and we're hot and cold. We talked about picking up the spin of the ball and we were not doing that very well. We were reacting to pitches rather than attacking our pitches and that is something we have been working on all season. We do well at some points but we don't do well at others but its a work in progress." "We held them to two but we can't win a game without hitting and you can't win without scoring," said Rising Sun pitcher, Emily Dill. Throughout the final inning neither the Panthers nor the Tigers scored leaving the Panthers to win 2-0. Both team's solid defense and great pitchers is what held the game to two runs. "Rising Sun played a good game, other than not coming up with the hits. I think Mara stayed away from the middle of the plate and she is making the opposing team hit her pitches," said Coach Ruark. Perryville 10, Bel Air 2. The Panthers again held the game to two. Perryville prevailed over visiting Bel Air, Wednesday night, May 3. "When we are on our "A" game we are going to be tough to beat. With the last few games we haven't allowed more than two runs. We are running well and just getting a lot of balls in play and our strike out rate is going down, so we will be able to get runs and win games if we keep doing what we are doing defensively and pitching," said Perryville coach Dave Ruark. "I feel like the momentum is there but the most important thing is we are not giving up runs right now. So if our bats come around, we are going to be tough as long as we stay solid." Nicole DiGiambattista was three for four, with two triples and a home run. DiGiambattista also scored two runs. Amber Keene was two for three with two singles. Mara Little hit a triple, scored two runs and an RBI. Erin Muprhy scored two runs. Emily Phillips threw three strike outs. Comments are closed.
